Tarvikkeet

Harmaa villakangas

Muotoile kankaasta kaksi samankokoista, kupolin muotoista kappaletta

pituus -  38cm + 1,5 cm (=saumanvara) =39,5 cm  (tämä on kaikilla sama)
leveys  - pääsi ympärysmitta jaettuna kahdella + saumanvarat 3 cm eli jos pääsi on kokoa 58, leikkaat 29 cm + 3 cm = 32 cm levyiseksi

Huom! Laita pari milliä ylimääräistä päänympärykseen...

pituus 38 cm + saumanvara 1,5 cm (kuvassa saumanvara on vain 1 cm)

leveys päänympärys jaettuna kahdella + 3 cm saumanvaroja
 Sininen villakangas

Leikkaa sinisestä villakankaasta kappale, joka on 6 cm x pääsi ympärys + 3 cm (saumanvarat)

Pellavakangas

Leikkaa pellavakankaasta noin 10-12 cm korkea kappale. Mittaa oikea leveys päästäsi (villamyssy voi olla muutamia millejä isompi, mutta tämän tulisi olla juuri sopivan kokoinen, ettei myssy tipu korville).

Nahkalippa

Leikkaa mustasta nahasta kuvien ja mittojen mukainen lippa. Rei'itä lippa sisäkaaresta tiheään muutaman millin päästä reunoilta. Suosittelen naskalia.

Myssyn ompelu

Ompele harmaat myssyn osat kaarevilta osilta yhteen kuvan mukaisin MUTTA HUOMATTAVASTI PIENEMMIN PISTOIN.

Ompele uudestaan lipan keskiosasta lipan toiseen päähän.  Huom. Ommel kulkee koko ajan nurjalla harmaan ja sinisen kankaan välissä.

Taita sininen nurjalle puolelle (taitekohta on siinä, missä harmaa loppuu). Neulaa, mutta älä ompele. Huom!

Varmista, ettei vuori näy ulkopuolelle ompelemalla vaikka muutamalla pistolla. Huom! Varmista, että lippaan reunaa jää sinisen ja vuorikankaan väliin riittävästi (ettei lipan kulma tunge itseään ulos). Pellavakankaan tulisi olla ihan hieman pienempi kuin villamyssyn, joten joudut vähän syöttämään/ kiristämään kankaita ommellessa.

Vuoren yläosa - Käännä vuoren toista päätä nurjalle ja kiinnitä löysin ja nyt vaikka melko harvoinkin tikein kiinni harmaaseen (älä ompele kankaan läpi).

Myssyn tulisi nyt olla valmis.

The Challenge #19: Wood, Metal, Bone

Chatelaine

Fabric: Silk Dupion and tin/ pewter necklace

Pattern: none

Year: Hard to tell....

Notions: Off-white linen thread, green and yellow embroidery threads, chamois

How historically is it? The necklace is tin/ pewter, so it's ok, fabric is ok for the silk, not the dupion part.... threads are ok, and it is all hand sewn and made

Hours to complete: Yesterday - the whole Sunday

First worn: not yet

Total cost: 30 € for the necklace, rest was from my stash

Parts for the chatelaine:

a pin cushion ( I know, those pins are not period correct)

a pocket for the scissors, there is a little bit of chamois to prevent the silk being full of holes....

a little pouch to hold my thimbles

a little thread winder

Challenge #18: Re-make, re-use, re-fashion

Livkjol

Because I really need something to wear in Leipzig I will make a livkjol (bodice skirt or something like that). They have been used in Nordic countries at least from the end of the 18th century so it'll do nicely for the year 1813. I'm not sure though if only young girls used them, but hey, isn't forty the new twenty....

I wanted it to be very plain and simple and found two extant dresses to follow...

http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things/livkjol/S-NM/NM.0095532?query=livkjol&search_context=1&page=3&count=208&pos=61

http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things/livkjol/S-NM/NM.0001393?query=livkjol&search_context=1&count=208&pos=20

But since I seem to be very keen with the v-shape at the back, I made it so. Otherwise I tried to make it look like the originals... BUT since I quess I have more "material" at the front of me I had to make the bodice part a bit longer....

The Challenge: #18: Re-make, re-use, re-fashion - Livkjol

Fabric: Re-using an old tablecloth, it feels and looks like linen, but I can't be 100% sure. But is home woven, so it must be natural fibres anyway. When I bought it, it had this attic-smell, and though I washed it there is still a bit of that smell left.

Pattern: Drafted, following those original dresses

Year: Early 19th century

Notions: Off-white linen thread (I'm closing the bodice now with pins, but I may add some hooks and eyes later)

How historically accurate is it? The fabric should be quite accurate, the pattern is ok, hand sewn BUT I have a little problem wearing it with my age - but if it gets hot at the cooking fire, it will be a wonderful thing to wear

Hours to complete: just few evenings

First worn: not yet

Total cost: 5 € for the table cloth

Challenge #17: Robes and robings

Medieval monk's robe - twice - not my period, but a little jump to the past time....

The outfit includes robe, hood, jute rope, a little bag (not seen in the picture), cross and a wig - cross was bought as it is, but I made the wig using a "bold" wig and some doll hair... not perfect but was good enough for the photo...

Fabric: fake wool fabric (even the fabric seller didn't know what kind of fabric it was... but it was cheap!)

Pattern: mixing all the monk robe patterns found by google

Year: about 800-900 Anno Domini

Notions: brown poly thread, jute rope

How hist. acc: ok, this is a costume not a historical outfit...

Hours to complete: 2 h/ outfit - yes, there is one more... and it's just like this one, only a little bigger

First worn: just for the photoshoot, but will be worn (perhaps) by both men in 28th September at a medieval fair

Total cost: 20 €/ outfit (10 € for the fabric, 10 € for the robe, cross and the wig)

Challenge #16: Separates

Petticoat

A quick petticoat sewn at the military camp one weekend.... and it happened to be so dark (and I was fool enough not to mark the sides) that I managed to sew the back part not only upside down but also inside out.... but it will be easy to fix... someday...

Fabric: cotton sateen - dyed by me ( was meant to be much darker, but it's ok like it is)

Pattern: basic 18th century petticoat

Year: 18th century

Notions: linen thread, black cotton tape for the waistband

How hist. acc: pattern is ok, cotton not so much (for a camp follower), sewing ok (hand sewn, period sewing techniques) and was sewn at the camp - so only sunlight and campfire as lightning

Hours to complete: just a few - plus the time I'll use re-doing it...

First worn: just for the picture

Total cost: 15€ (i quess - stash
